The Future Leaders Program (FLP) was a new feature of the Maritime Security Challenges conference series for 2016

The FLP is an initiative of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies and the Royal Canadian Navy. Officers from various national maritime agencies, including navies and coast guards, as well as government officials from defence and departments have been invited from around the Asia Pacific region to participate in this unique career-building program.

The FLP took place along side the MSC conference, and the participants in the program took part in all MSC events. FLP delegates participated in a collaborative simulation exercise and met to discuss a variety of challenges to the maritime security order, which was presented to the MSC delegation on the last day of the conference.
